About the Village
Situated within a verdant region of the Himalayan belt, this area boasts a rich cultural tapestry, a diverse ethnic population and an abundance of natural resources, remaining largely untouched by corporate influences. Historically, it is noted by local elders that the village was abundant in TIMBUR, leading to its designation as "TIMBURBONG," where "TIMBUR" translates to SICHUAN and "BONG" signifies BUNCH in the Limboo language. This Gram Panchayat Unit is home to multiple cultural communities that coexist in harmony. Geographically, the location is defined by Latitude: 27.15948, Longitude: 88.18537 and an altitude of 1321 meters. The administrative center of Upper Timburbong Village is located at Arubotey Tarbari (Ward No: 05), approximately 03 kilometers from Soreng Bazar in Soreng District, Sikkim. A C.C (Cement Contrete) footpath has been constructed along the PMGSY road to facilitate access to the Village Administrative Center. The Upper Timburbong Gram Panchayat encompasses an area of 176.8 hectares, comprising 290 households and a population of 1,224. In terms of infrastructure and services available to the Gram Panchayat, there is a dedicated conference room, individual offices for the Panchayat President, members and staff. Various public services are offered, including a single-window system, WiFi access, e-application facilities, a Common Service Center (CSC), photocopy machines, a library and a meeting hall. The guiding principle of Gram Panchayat Timburbong is to selflessly contribute to the social and economic advancement of all community members. The Gram Panchayat Unit has consistently played a pivotal role in the upliftment of society, the village, and the overall welfare of its residents.
